Nora Duke One of Canada’s 100 Most Powerful Women

Last night in Toronto, Nora Duke, President and CEO of Fortis Properties was named to Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100. The annual award, held by the Woman’s Executive Council, celebrates and honours women who are proven achievers in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors in Canada. The keynote speaker for the evening was Arianna Huffington, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of the The Huffington Post.

 

Biography

 

As President and Chief Executive Officer of Fortis Properties, Nora Duke is responsible for the Company’s three operating divisions – commercial real estate, hotels and non‐regulated hydroelectric generation. Representing $600 million in assets, the Company operates in eight Canadian provinces and has a workforce of over 2,300 employees.

 

Previous to her current role, Ms. Duke was Vice‐President of the Hospitality Division, overseeing the Company’s hotel operations and playing an active role in the Division’s growth and development strategy. Prior to transferring to Fortis Properties, Ms. Duke worked over 20 years with Newfoundland Power Inc. As Vice‐President, Customer and Corporate Services with Newfoundland Power, Nora was responsible for customer service, human resources, corporate services and environmental policy.

 

Ms. Duke is Chair of the Intercontinental Hotels Group’s Canada Owners’ Committee and a member of the Intercontinental Hotels Groups’ Board of Directors. In addition to her industry‐related activities, Nora is also Chair of Memorial University’s Genesis Centre Selection Board, as well as a board member of the Brother T.I. Murphy Centre and the Health Care Foundation in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

 

Nora holds a Masters of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from Memorial University of Newfoundland.
